There are two ways to do this: online or by phone.
If you apply over the phone, it will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
Applying online is faster, taking just 5-10 minutes. Once you’ve chosen a product, click on the Apply button. We’ll tell you what information you’ll need to hand and on-screen instructions will guide you through the application process.
To open an account with us over the phone, call us on 0345 266 1231.
You need to be aged 16 or over to open a Ford Money account.
Verifying your identity
As part of your application we need to verify your identity and address. Don’t worry if you don’t initially pass - it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t open an account with us. It’s just likely that we’ll need some further proof to verify the information you have entered. For a list of documents we accept as proof of identity and address, please click here.
How to provide us with your identity documents
If you‘ve been given the option to upload your documentation online as part of your application process then follow the instructions provided onscreen or in the email that you’ll also receive.
If not, you’ll need to send us documentation via post to our Freepost address:

We recommend that you send us copies of your identity documents. However, should you choose to send us original documents, we advise you use recorded post or special delivery. All original documents received will be returned.
Your temporary application reference number
Once your application is submitted you’ll be given a temporary application reference number, which we’ll also email to you. You can quote this reference when making an initial deposit into your Ford Money account while you wait to receive your new account number from us.
Your password, memorable details and Customer ID
Shortly after we have opened your account, we’ll send you your Customer ID in an email as well as in the post, which together with your memorable details and password will enable you to log into your account.
- If you applied online, you’ll have created your password and memorable date, name and place as part of your application process.
- If you applied by phone, you’ll need to call us once you’ve received your Customer ID so that we can provide you with a temporary password. This will be provided to you in two parts. Once you’ve initially logged in with the temporary password you will be able to choose you own one and set up your memorable details too.
If you don’t receive any emails, check your Junk Mail folder. If you find one of our emails there, add us to your address book so you don’t miss further important emails. However, if either of these emails are missing, call us right away on 0345 266 1231.
In addition to the above, we’ll send you a Welcome Pack that also contains your account details and other important information relating to the running of your account.
